Radical Islamic Terrorists vs. Extreme Right Wing Military Industrialists
Who is more extreme: Rush Limbaugh or Muqtada al Sadr? You might say Sadr because he is known for his calls for violence against the United States, but is his ideology that more extreme than someone like Rush? To me it seems ridiculous that the United States can call al Qaeda extreme in any way when the United States' military actions against terrorists is far more extreme than anything I've seen the terrorists do. Sure, bombing the USS Cole, the embasies in Kenya and Tanzania, 9/11 and other attacks are pretty far out there. I mean that's definetely more extreme than jumping off a helicopter with a snowboard strapped to your feet, but compared to a full out invasion on Iraq and Afghanistan an i.e.d. here and there is nothing. Looking back over the short period of American history one could easily say that the United States has used extreme measures to accomplish goals on many many more occassions than the long history of Islamic "radicals". The use of the atomic bomb during WWII, the extreme violence of the Korean war, the death and destruction that came with the Vietnam war, the pure devastation that came with the Gulf War and the many many proxy wars fought in Africa and South and Central America are just a few examples of how the United States has gone out of its way to not use acceptable international norms to resolve conflicts. The norm really is peace, not retaliatory action, pre-emptive strikes or intimidation through military might. The U.S. is one of very few countries who actually go to these extremes to resolve "threats to national secuirty" or other so called conflicts of U.S. interest. But now it's gone a little too far. People across the world have seen that it takes extreme measures to answer to extreme forces and that is exactly what has happened in Israel and Gaza, and that's scary as hell. It's scary because extremism is spreading like a nasty disease. I look at all the comments on news articles about the war in Gaza and all I see are extreme idiots bragging about how one side will wipe out the other. The zionist pigs vs. the raghead bombers: That sounds like a comic book or something. And where are the moderates, the ones who used to be the norm? They can't be heard anymore so they either join one extreme group or just stay out of the fight. And that's whats scary. Everyone wants to jump behind a Rush Limbaugh or a Muqtada al Sadr and scream out how righteous they are. Well I'm personally going to sit on the fence and watch the extremists wear themselves out. Seriously, think of how much energy they expend trying to be far right or radically different. I think it's hard enough just trying to be normal. Well good luck with all your extremism. I think I'll just stick to the snowboarding
